Want a Piece of the Action?

001Winterkist

Starting Monday August 6th, I'll be hosting the Winterkist Blog Hop. If you don't already know this overload of cuteness, you really do need to check it out. It's designed by Monica Solorio-Snow (aka The Happy Zombie), who is probably THE coolest most awesome funny lady that you'll ever come across.  Seriously.

Lecien USA very generously sent me a great huge stack of this yummy fabric to distribute among my blogging friends for the blog hop. I thought they might send a bit of this and a bit of that. Well, they sent me a bit of everything! As you can imagine, my jaw dropped when I opened the giant shipping envelope to find the entire collection in there! Uhhhh, yeah!

I spent an couple of hours playing with it. I folded it and re-folded it. Made up cute little stacks in all sorts of combinations, rolled them up, took a bunch of cheesy photos of me kissing the bundles. Ok I didn't really do that....maybe ;-)

Here's the thing. I have these two lonely little bundles that need to be made into something. As much as I'd love to hoard it, I want these bundles to go to good loving homes where they will be allowed to play freely. Each bundle is a half yard of fabric plus one gnoma. How do you get one of these bundles? Leave me a comment telling me what the worst gift you ever received was. Oh, and tell me what you'd make with the fabric too! I'll close the contest on Sunday July 1 around 8PM PST and post the two winners on Monday July 2nd.

  1. I'm first?! A giant gift basket of perfumey soaps and body wash. I'm allergic to perfume. Just being near it (wrapped) made me feel nauseous. Pick me. Mama needs a gnome.

    1. Oh, I'd make a new iPad pouch btw. (I was too excited to finish typing)

  2. The worst gift ever was a handmade clear glass christmas ornament that a co-worker had attempted to "marble" with two colors of paint swirled inside, but my two colors had merged into the ickiest brown. It looked like poop (seriously).

The next morning, I told another co-worker that I'd accidently dropped it on the bathroom floor, and when she asked, "Did it break?!" I replied, "Not the first time I dropped it, but definitely on the second." ;)

I would incorporate the red bundle into my handmade patchwork Christmas stockings... not sure about the black and gold bundle...

  3. The worst gift was a really ugly top...couldn't even give it away LOL!!

I'd make a pillow for my rv so I'd have a 'traveling' gnome to take on all our adventures! Thanks for the chance!

  4. My worst Xmas present ever didn't exist - we did Secret Santa, and the person who was buying for me just didn't turn up! I'm not sure of the scale of the Gnoma, but I think he would look cute on top of the tree instead of a star - maybe with some tree ornaments or a table centre made from the matching fabrics!

  5. We got the most terrible plastic plate and plastic silverware picnic set at our wedding. Not that they wouldn't be useful but so ugly!!

  6. If I won the red I'd probably make a mini Christmas quilt.
The worst gift...probably clothes my mom got me. God love her, but she has NO style. :)

  7. Lol I was reading through the comments and a similar thing happened to me with the Secret Santa that Jennie commented about...at work we had one last year, and the people organizing it somehow managed to screw up and my name never got drawn. They felt really guilty and went downstairs and bought me a little ID holder from the Vera Wang store, which was nice of them, but it's still sitting unused on my dresser...
I absolutely adore these fabrics, and I was just thinking today how cute it would be to have a stocking made with a little gnome adorning it! :)

  8. The worst present that somehow people keep giving me is bath sets! I can't use them as I'm allergic to a lot of the products in them...thanks to my highly sensitive skin!

    I love the fabrics! I think I'd make a quilt...for myself..with matching accessories from any leftovers =D

  9. Our first married Christmas together we got a $2 plastic napkin holder and a pack of paper Christmas napkins from my grandparents. Second Christmas it was a large Post It note pad! Don't know which was worse!
I'd make a lined library bag to fit on our stroller that could even double as a Santa sack! I'd love either bundle, but the black and orange one would match our stroller perfectly!

  10. Worst gift? Hmmm, I don't know! The birthdays when I don't get anything from my hubby/kids? Happened last year and I was really sad. :( Other than that, when I was a kid my grandma would always send my sisters and me these weird matching clothing items that we had to put on for a photo, then my mom never made us wear them again!

  11. Hmmm.. worst gift? Either when my parents went on vacation without me for my 25th birthday.. and didn't even leave me a card! Or the horrible purple vest my grandmother got me when I was 16. It was purple and covered in a tan sea life print.. and had huge seashell and fish buttons. And I had to wear it whenever she came over.So awful! ;)

I'd love to make either a cute bag or pillow. Love that gnome!

  12. The worst gift I ever got was a jewelry box my (now ex) husband wanted to get me but I told him I didn't like it and it was too expensive. He bought it anyways and kept it for himself. I would make a fun gnome cushion out of the fabric. oooh, or maybe a tree skirt.

  13. Worst gift recently...was this: http://www.go-girl.com/ Really?

I might be tempted to finally make the fabric Christmas bags to use annually instead of wrapping gifts. Otherwise, probably matching skirts or dresses for my girls.

  14. wow I want to win this. Those things are begging to be made into super awesome pillows for my kids to snuggle. ADORABLE!

Worst gift ever...I was a teen and my parents gave me "the 7 highly effective habits of successful teens" or something like that....I mean really?! I think it was even my birthday.

Christmas was usually fine. Though my best friend lived across the street so we'd always compare presents and she got way better stuff!!

  15. worst gift, hm, other than white elephants gifts nothing is coming to mind.. these are fabulous bundles though, i'd love to get my hands on one!

  16. Hmm, the worst gift question is tricky as I'm the sort to just brush it away and forget about it. Try and focus on the good. I do remember that when my parents weren't forgetting or ignoring my birthday I'd get gifts that made me think "do you know me at all?".

As to what that fabric wants to be.... Too many ideas. Stocking, table runner, kitchen set (inculding oven mitt), lap quilt, project bags...

  17. A single bowl that I didn't like and it didn't match anything I would ever own. I'd use the fabric in a quilt. The gnoma is so cute!

  19. The worst present I got was a weird green sweater from my husband - it had a scarf attached and it was too big for me. It hung in my closet until spring when I packed it off to Goodwill. Someone else will love it, right? I woud use the fabric for a table runner - either color combination would be great!

  20. Years ago my young husband gave me a vacuum for Christmas! What was he trying to tell me? Ever since, he is given some sort of houseware in jest, and now my son-in-law also receives one. See how they like it! But now dear old husband does the vacuuming, so it's all good.
I would use the red gnome to fill a stocking since he looks like Santa and the black gnome reminds me of Merlin, so he would get a magic wand and wonderful gold things would fly from his pot of gold.

  21. Oh I love the Little Gnome. the worst prize I ever won is not really that bad. A candle that I am allergic to. I would love to make a little sign for my grandaughter using the gnome as the Center. Thanks for the chance to win

  22. I'd love a piece of the action, but I'm already getting a package of this lovely fabric to play with from the Fat Quarterly bunch, so I'll let someone else have a turn. Can't wait to see what you're going to do with this blog hop, Katie!!

  23. When i was in elementary school i got a hideous looking purple sweatsuit for christmas.. never quite forgave the parents for that one.

I would love to make a cute table runner for my desk at work with that fabric!

  24. First off,I cant wait for your hop, I have been dying for this fabric since I first saw it. I hate to say that any gift was the worst and hurt anyones feelings BUT, in jr I wanted so badly to get a pair of leather lace up boots that everyone was wearing and I got a pair of vinyl(plastic)boots with fur lining that actually brought tears to my eyes they were so bad. My poor mom felt so bad after that she took me for the right kind. Bless her heart I miss her!
I think I would make a pillow for my sofa and table runners for the end tables. They would look adorable :)
