2013 a year for learning

Country Roads

I've never been one to make resolutions, it's just not my thing.  I do however like the idea of finding just one word to hold as your focus for the year. It seems like such a good idea to have a word, an idea, to come back to time after time to remind yourself where you want to be. When I consider the many words I could choose, only one really stands out for me. Learn. Not just learning specific skills, but also learning to be at peace with myself and learning to focus. I suppose in a way those are skills too.

This year I'll be returning to school. Again. This time taking business administration at the local university. I don't exactly have any goals related to it, but I know that it will be very helpful in the direction I'm heading.

I also plan to learn to crochet from an actual pattern. Sure I can made a scarf, cowl, or dishcloth, but I want to make something pretty.

Photography is a big uhmmm.... issue. I would love to take beautifully composed pictures, but it just doesn't come naturally. I'm currently looking for a good class.

As far as learning to focus, I'm starting by challenging myself. Every day in January I'm going to walk a kilometre a day. A km isn't any great distance, it's a 10 or 15 minute walk. It's the process, and learning to enjoy the commitment that I'm interested in. As a bonus, my husband has even joined me on my first two walks!

I'm going to check in with myself at the beginning of each month, to make sure I'm on track. It can't be that hard, right?

  2. Katie, those sound like excellent goals. I especially like the walking each day - you will be amazed how much you can accomplish by walking a little each day. Some days it will clear your head, others it will give you time to think about something and focus. Good luck!

  4. Do you want to borrow Bea for a while. I'd love to say my min 1 hour daily walks are for my own good, but you should hear her whine if she doesn't get one! Maybe I can ship her over with the latest quilt. She loves cookies!
