I've always wanted to join an online bee, so when I had the chance to join two, I jumped right in. We Bee Modern is based on the book 99 Modern Blocks. I took the February, the first month, so I didn't get to do any sewing right away. Over the past few days however, I've been watching my blocks pop up on flickr. How exciting is that?! I thought my fabrics would look good worked up in the block I chose, and I have to say that they look fabulous! This is the block I chose, "On the Plus Side", which Bianca turned into our bee button!
You can't really go wrong with Lotta Jansdotter's Echo. Even though it's not quite March, we've been given our assignment for the month. Since this is the first bee sewing I got to do, I wasted no time. Abigail asked us to choose the block and fabrics, so she could have a scrappy sampler. It's not an easy task to not only pick the block but also the fabric for someone else, especially when that someone DOESN'T HAVE A BLOG OR ANY PICTURES IN THEIR FLICKR STREAM (yes I'm yelling just a bit). I had absolutely nothing to base my decision on! None the less, I forged ahead. I had a fat quarter pack of Kona solids from Sew Fresh Fabrics (oh my gosh, how much do I LOVE Peg and Becca?!) and a London Undeground print that co-ordinated perfectly. I went with the block called "Everything Equal". I worried that I should pick a more complicated block, especially after all the tiny pieces in the block I had everyone do for me! In the end I decided that the graphic simplicity of the block lent itself well to the fabrics I wanted to use. I think Abigail will be happy with it. Maybe she will even post it to flickr.
